Hello on a Monday - September 14th, 2020
I hope you’ll excuse my lack of a blog these past few months.
Like so many of you I'm spending my time doing chores, I've put off for weeks, month (years?) Attending to chores is never eventful. So sadly I don't have a lot of exciting news.
Right now I'm waiting for a response from the Yukon Government as to whether I can have my biennial solo exhibition in Whitehorse Yukon. I have some great new work to show you, but because of Covid all governments must approve plans for public gatherings, and make sure social distancing is adhered to, so I'm crossing my fingers, but it could be for nothing, I wish I could be more positive, but things are not looking good, it's hard to stage an art show during a pandemic.
However that said if the show is approved it will be fantastic I can assure you.
Here's a sample, but I can't show you the big surprise, because it's a surprise!!

Something BIG - (of mammoth proportions) did happen over the summer- months, most notably the cement and rebar mammoth I constructed a year ago was moved to its permanent home on Front Street, in Dawson City, Yukon, in front of the Commissioner's Residence.

The move went a lot smoother than I hoped, but when you work with titans like Gary Gamie (Gamie trucking LTD.) and Donny Flynn (Do-That construction) I suppose the best case scenario is actually quite doable 💪.
So I’ll spare you all the nitty gritty details of chores and tasks, I’m sure it’s about as interesting as anybody’s. What I will get into though is the painting. As usual the drive to paint is very much there and I’m sure by now we all know how I feel about the changing colours of fall in the Yukon, again the picture below taken by my wife, I love the rainbow appearing just before the rain 🌈 ! Hopefully it's a positive sign of something.
This year I’ve been experimenting more with low light. Looking more for colour contrast than light contrast, which can be fleeting. It’s sort of the inverse of what’s usual for me, but perhaps that’s where the appeal and challenge lay. It’s a different experience to not seek out the light, and it plays with me in the same way any change of habit does. It feels like unfamiliar footing, or like I’ve forgotten something important, but don’t know what.
